Celebrating the life of
Marie Cecelia Fahey
August 17, 1926 - May 28, 2012
Savannah- Marie Cecelia Fahey, 85, died at Hospice Savannah, on May 28 surrounded by loving family.
She was born August 17, 1926 in Savannah and was a graduate of St. Vincent's Academy recipient of McAuley Award, Mount St. Agnes College, with an M.A. in Health Care and Administration from Central Michigan.
She entered the convent and became a Sister of Mercy Sr. Mary Conrad, RSM and was the administrator of labs in various Mercy hospitals including St. Joseph's in Savannah and Atlanta. She helped design the present lab at St. Joseph's as well as those in other hospitals. She left the convent to care for her widowed mother after over twenty years as a nun. She then worked for SmithKline as a supervisor of sales for four states until her retirement.
Marie served as president of the Ga. Society of Medical Technologists and Atlanta Area Blood Bank Assn and a member of numerous medical societies. She was active in the Azalea Chapter of Business Women in Savannah and was a Daughter of Ireland and communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Mike Fahey and sisters, Lillian Fahey Clark and Anne Fahey Counihan. She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Brown, and brothers, Edward J. Fahey of Springfield and Thomas J. Josie Fahey of Cleveland, Tenn. as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel from 4 to 6 pm with rosary service at 5pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at St. Peter the Apostle Church with interment at Catholic Cemetery.
The family suggests any remembrances be made in Marie's memory to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church or St. Vincent's Academy. They wish to thank the entire staff at Azalealand Nursing Home for their loving care and concern for Marie during her stay there as well as her wonderful neighbors and friends at Edgewater Oaks who cared for each other.
